The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) welcomes Stephanie Rolle, of Charles County, as the new director of the Nonprofit Institute (NPI) at CSM. She joins the team Oct. 7.

As the director of CSM’s Nonprofit Institute, Rolle will oversee the fostering of professional development and capacity building for the numerous and diverse nonprofit groups working in Southern Maryland.

She comes to CSM after serving as the chief executive officer of the United Way of Southern Maryland, where she was responsible for community impact, resource development, and advocacy outcomes in Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s counties. With the United Way of Southern Maryland, Rolle crafted the initiation and launch of affinity groups Women United Win! and Future Force (Leadership Development for Youth and Young Adults). She built strong relationships in the Southern Maryland region and was an effective convenor for people making a positive difference through the lens of diversity, inclusion, and equity.

With a keen commitment to college student success, Rolle also worked as a managing director for the nonprofit career development organization called INROADS. For 12 years, she led the successful start-up team for the Miami, Fla., affiliate; she grew the affiliate in Raleigh, N.C.; and she opened INROADS offices in Western Canada and South Africa. Rolle said she describes herself as “a skilled strategist and creative thinker with deep respect for the work of uplifting and enhancing the lives of people in need.”

“We are thrilled to have Stephanie join the CSM team,” said CSM President Dr. Yolanda Wilson. “Her deep experience working with, and alongside, our region’s nonprofit community – as well as supporting student success efforts – makes her a perfect fit to lead the critical work of NPI. Stephanie’s passion for uplifting and serving our most vulnerable populations make her an excellent leader to support not only our nonprofits, but also our students by creating pathways and expanding resources that ensure their success.”

“This professional assignment speaks directly to my personal calling to serve the community of life changers working in our nonprofit organizations,” Rolle said. “The Nonprofit Institute is a well-respected community resource and the opportunity to scale its impact is a task to be excited about every day.

“The important work of NPI is a critical component to a thriving society and supporting their ability to make a positive impact on the people they serve, while enhancing new pathways to student success represents a perfect fit for me,” she continued. “I am also delighted to join the amazing CSM family.”

Rolle said she is driven by a passion to be a part of the positive forces that uplift and develop people and her professional achievements have made successful impacts in corporate, nonprofit, government, and faith-based environments across the country, including international work in South Africa, Canada, and Brazil.

Rolle is a graduate of Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University with a double major in Business Administration and Retail. She is a certified facilitator, corporate trainer, and grief coach.

Rolle in this new full-time capacity replaces Senior Consultant Cara Fogarty and Consultant Michelle Sullivan, who served NPI in part-time positions for many years, and both of whom moved on to new ventures over the summer.

“I applaud Cara and Michelle, and their assistant Danielle, for their leadership and steadfast commitment to serving our communities,” said Wilson. “They have been steadily working behind the scenes to assist our nonprofits through inspiring conferences, monthly network meetings and community calls, and guidance and support. We are grateful for their contributions in making the Nonprofit Institute what it is today.”

CSM’s Nonprofit Institute began in September 2010 and since then has supported the region’s nonprofit organizations by providing operational advice and insights, professional development, affinity groups, networking opportunities, and hosting an annual conference.
