Mark Your Calendars to Hear Guitarist Brent Ferguson When CSM Returns to Live Performances Feb. 11 and 13

The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) returns to in-person music events this month with two concerts from classical guitarist and CSM Assistant Professor of Music Dr. Brent Ferguson. The musician will perform Friday, Feb. 11 at the Brad and Linda Gottfried Theater at the La Plata Campus Fine Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 13 at the Indian Head Black Box Theater at 3 p.m.

Ferguson teaches private lessons in guitar and classes on the History of Rock, Music in World Cultures, and Music Theory. He has trained on the classical guitar under Michael Richter, Matthew Hinsley, and Joseph Williams II. As a classical guitarist, Ferguson has performed throughout the United States and has an album, Avalon, as part of a guitar-flugelhorn duo, the MIENT Duo. He primarily performs music of Latin America and the United States with a specialty on new works by living composers.

Audience members must wear masks at all time while on the La Plata Campus and at the Indian Head Black Box Theater. Theater seats will be socially distanced to ensure safety. Small groups may be seated together. No pre-registration is required for the Feb. 11 performance. Brent Ferguson recently joined the CSM faculty as an assistant professor of Music. He earned his bachelor’s in Music Composition at the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2007; master’s in Music Theory at Texas State University in 2011, and doctorate in Music Theory and Composition at the University of Kansas in 2020. Ferguson is a seasoned instrumentalist, a composer for music in the concert hall and for video games, and a published scholar on music and multimedia. Free.
