Each year, the College of Southern Maryland's Student Government Association (SGA) and the Student Life Department celebrate the significant contributions of student leaders, student employees, advisors, clubs, and organizations during the Student Government Banquet. This year, the awards presented will include the President's Cup, Vice President's Cup, Student Employee of the Year, Club Advisor of the Year, Club of the Year, and the Student Development Achievement Award.

Student Government Association:

  • Did you know that all CSM students are members of the Student Government Association! The Student Government Association is advised by the Vice President of Student Equity and Success.
  • The purpose of the SGA shall be to provide for the general welfare of students by acting as a liaison between the students and college administration, to promote a constructive involvement of students in the affairs of the college, to provide opportunity for the co-curricular education and personal development of students, and to provide a diverse program of extracurricular activities and services.

Campus Associations:

Each CSM campus has its own campus association which is advised by a Student Life Coordinator. The purpose of the Campus Association shall be to provide opportunities for the co-curricular education and personal development of students and to provide a diverse program of activities and services at all campuses.

The La Plata Campus Association serves by representing student opinion, addressing campus needs through targeted programming and the maintenance of tradition, and providing opportunities for leadership development to enrich the quality of student life.  Its dedicated staff and elected officers have the obligation to carry out projects promoting student activity.

President

Meet Diante Keita, your 2024-2025 Student Government Association's La Plata campus president at the College of Southern Maryland. This is Diante Keita’'s sophomore year at CSM, as well as his second year being a part of SGA, where he previously served as Prince Frederick's clubs and organizations representative. He is currently enrolled in an associate's degree in Business Administration and plans on transferring to get his bachelor's degree in Accounting.

He’s a laid-back sort of person who, in his free time, loves to learn about personal finance, write stories, and watch six-hour-long video game and TV show retrospectives. This year, his goal for CSM is to build community unity, grow event engagement, and widen its reach in Maryland. His quote for the upcoming academic year is, “Let’s make this year a great year.”

Vice President

Meet DaShawn Rustin, Vice-President of the La Plata Campus Association at the College of Southern Maryland. DaShawn is a Sophomore from the DMV area, majoring in Media Studies.

After earning her associate degree, she plans to transfer to the University of Maryland Global campus. DaShawn is an active member at CSM, participating in numerous clubs and organizations including Women of Excellence, the Student Ambassador Program, and the Athletics Department as a Social Media Manager. She is also a part of Phi Theta Kappa International Honors Society and the Miller Student Leadership Academy.

DaShawn's interest in media is driven by a deep-rooted passion for storytelling and a commitment to amplify diverse voices and narratives. She aspires to work in various aspects of the media field, from marketing and public relations to writing for print, film, and television.

Outside of academics, DaShawn is known for her resilience, empathy, and strong work ethic. She is deeply involved in community work and activism. With her profound interest in cultural exchange and social justice, DaShawn is not only pursuing a career in media but is also committed to making a difference in society. Additionally, she enjoys reading, playing video games, and engaging in creative activities.

Secretary

Say hi to Denzel, an 18-year-old, passionate, fashion obsessed 2024-2025 Secretary at the La Plata Campus Association and Budget Board Secretary! He hopes to accomplish many things here at The College of Southern Maryland, including his aspiration to work within the Psychology field! 

With his priority being assisting fellow peers towards the betterment of Student Life here at La Plata, he’s been involved in numerous events and organizational groups in Maryland including meeting delegates in hopes to keep supporting the mission to help community colleges stay funded and strive, volunteer at numerous associations that helps families with necessary resources such as food and shelter, and bring fellow students together at CSM events alongside the Student Government Association, he assists those with a wonderful heart!

Denzel is interested in so many hobbies he always has something new going on, whether it’s keeping up with friends at a new hangout spot, creating new memories with family, or picking out a new outfit he finds while thrifting, he’s always doing something! One of his most favored songs is “Skin Deep”, by Brotherly. He describes the vocal mix as an endless muse of emotions characterizing the way society can be portrayed as to someone whatever their situation may be.

Treasurer

Yooo, what's goin on everyone! My name is Alvin Abarca, and I'm the Treasurer for the La Plata Campus! My role as a treasurer, to keep it short, is to make sure the financial aspect of the campus is kept in check for smooth sailing for future events! Making sure the clubs on our campus is getting the proper amount of funding for their activities, and making sure student life activities are funded for as well! This is my second, almost third year at CSM as a business major, and when i'm not knees deep in work, l like to explore places, read books, play games and sleep & If you see me around, feel free to come up and say hello!

Meet Thomas Milling Jr. Your 2024-2025 Student Government Association and La Plata Campus Association Representative at the College of Southern Maryland. Thomas is a sophomore born and raised in Southern Maryland with a major in Business Administration. He is planning on transferring to Bowie State University after earning his associate degree. Thomas is dependable, honest, and incredibly hard-working. His interpersonal and communication skills allowed him to develop productive work. He takes the initiative and goes above and beyond, no matter what the task is.

In his downtime, Thomas enjoys reading, playing video games with his friends, and cooking for his family. He loves to help others when they need help and to share suggestions. Now let us make this 2024-2025 and great school year.

Multi-Campus Representative

Meet Marlon Charles. He will be your 2024-2025 representative of the SGA (Student Government Association) La Plata campus this is his fourth year at CSM (College of Southern Maryland) (College of Southern Maryland). His major is Art and Sciences, and he plans to transfer to a four-year university after his associate's.

Marlon is willing to explore and try new things. He is finding ways to improve and learn experiences within campus and student life. He is determined to pursue his goals even if there are hardships along the way. He is eager to collaborate with students this school year producing innovative ideas that assist the college experience. 

In his leisure time, he is interested in playing video games, making art pieces, and listening to music. He likes animation and storytelling. Let us create new memories and enjoy this school year!

Genesis Ingal

President

I am Genesis Ingal, the SGA President and Leonardtown Campus Association President. I am currently pursuing my degree in Nursing and Social Science. I love hiking, camping, exploring, photography, trying new things, listening to music and watching shows/movies/indie films. I am an adventurous and curious person, so I am easily to be dragged to anything, but as long it is safe. I am pursuing nursing because I want to give back and help the people who are in need of medical care. That is why my goal is to volunteer for two years to the Philippines and with Med Sans Frontier. I am pursuing AA Social Science and transfer to a four-year institution to pursue Public Policy or International Relation and Policy because I hope for better policies and future for all of us. As your Student Government Leader, I will do my best to continue represent, help and to be the voice of the student body.

I am Joseph Wolpert, the Leonardtown Campus Association Vice-President. I am currently pursing a degree in computer science.  Academically, my goal is to obtain my associate degree in Computer Science and transfer to the University of Maryland, Baltimore County to complete a bachelor’s degree. Outside of school, you will either find me playing guitar or bass for my band, exercising in the weight room, listening to The Beatles, or hanging around the student lounge.

Secretary

My name is Nina Deceuninckvancapelle and I am the SGA Secretary for the Leonardtown Campus. I like photography, camping/hiking, and urban exploration, as well as learning about medical science, microbiology, and true crime during my free time. I also have a fondness for oddities, weird history, and all that is “spooky.” I am a fourth semester nursing student, currently working for St. Mary’s Hospital in the Emergency Department for the Student Nurse Externship. I will graduate this winter with my Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN). Afterwards, I plan to begin working on my BSN while preparing for the NCLEX as I work as a new graduate nurse still in the ED. I have many other goals – travel more, go on more adventures, take care of my friends and family, and to always practice demonstrating empathy and understanding to others, regardless of the situation. As an officer of SGA, I plan to use my position and reflect my own personal goals and values by acting as a voice for students, ensuring that CSM remains a safe and effective learning environment for all members of our community.

I'm Gabriela Gomero Toscano and I'm a proud CSM student who will be graduating this next spring. I'm grateful to be part of Student Government Association as Treasurer; my previous experience as a Presidential Representative has been a great journey of knowledge and I’ve learned from my coordinators and friends. I feel that my SGA team always helps me to do the best and we are looking forward to creating a space for the community where our classmates feel as proud as us to be part of this college. This year we are more committed and with more ideas for our activities during the semesters I hope to see you all there.

I’m Aidan, an ambitious college student currently pursuing a degree in Cloud & Information Technology. I’m not just focused on hitting the books; I’m also a vibrant member of the local music scene as part of the band "The Concussed," where their energy and talent shine both on and off the stage. In addition to my academic and musical pursuits, I actively contribute to our campus life as the Clubs & Organizations Representative for the Leonardtown Campus through the Student Government Association. With a passion for fostering student engagement and community, I work tirelessly to support and enhance the diverse range of clubs and organizations on campus. Balancing a busy schedule, I excel academically, rock out with my band, and make a positive impact on student life. Hello, My name is Cristian Enarson I’m currently the Multi-Campus Representative for the Leonardtown Campus Association. I’ve been going to the College of Southern Maryland for one year. I’m majoring in Criminal Justice with a focus toward eventually becoming a lawyer. After graduating from CSM, I plan on transferring to a four-year institution. I love playing sports, watching movies, hanging out with friends, and learning new things!

I’m Danah Edrada, Campus Activities Representative at the Leonardtown Campus. I’m currently studying elementary education and on my third semester. My plan on transferring after my time at College of Southern Maryland. Ultimately, my goal is working in the public school system as a teacher. In my spare time I like to read, paint, and hang out with friends.

Ava Wilson

President
Hello I am Ava Wilson, the President of the Prince Frederick Campus Association. I am a rising freshman who attended the Early College Program at CSM, originating from Northern High school. I am currently majoring in Pre-Health Sciences where it is my hopes to become an Occupational Therapist or a Physical Therapist. I was born in upstate New York, moving to Maryland in 2015. I enjoys many hobbies including sports, outdoor activities, art, music, photography, clubs, space research and study, traveling, and much more. My favorite travel location so far has been the Virgin Islands, which started my beach obsession leading me to hope for a future living near the beach. I hope to bring bright new ideas to the Prince Frederick Campus, focusing on student engagement and being a reliable liaison for the student body. I want students to know they all have a voice and I plans to listen and advocate for all students.

Hello I am Kathryn Dolan, the Vice President of the Prince Frederick Campus Association. I am a sophomore majoring in communications at the College of Southern Maryland. After receiving my associates, I plan on transferring to UMGC next school year to complete a bachelors degree. After college, It is my plan to becoming a social worker after graduating. Outside of CSM, I enjoy going to concerts, editing videos, and playing the guitar. I am thrilled to be apart of the campus association for this upcoming school year!

Markala Pharr

Secretary

Hello I am Markala Pharr, the Secretary for the Prince Frederick Campus Association. I am a freshman, recently finishing the Early College Program during my senior year at Huntingtown High School. I plan to major in psychology and transfer to a four-year institution, desiring to become a Clinical Psychologist specializing in talk therapy. I am so excited for the opportunity to serve a role at CSM and cannot wait for all the activities and opportunities that will come by. I have served different officer roles throughout high school and is happy to take my skills and apply it to college as well- especially when it comes to getting involved with those in my community. In my free time, I enjoys watching basketball (go aces!), listening to music, spending quality time with my friends and recently got back into reading!

Hello I am Paige Radisch, the Treasurer for the Prince Frederick Campus Association. I am a first-year student and recently graduated from Huntingtown High School. My major is undecided, and I plans to transfer to a four-year institution later. I am so excited about the doors that the role of treasurer will open for me and cannot wait for all the fun activities to come. I am happy to take the knowledge from my high school experiences into the Student Government world and college itself. In my free time, I love listening to music and reading, I love to hang out with my friends and go about everything with a positive attitude.

Diallo Taylor

Hello I am Diallo Taylor, the Campus Activities Representative of Prince Frederick Campus Association at the College of Southern Maryland. I am a senior, majoring for an associate in arts & sciences and desires to become an event planner in the future to bring more entertainment to the community when it comes to initiating esports or video game tournaments for kids, teenagers, and adults together to enjoy and compete competitively as well while others come to socialize and form long term bonds with each other . I also look forward to planning game nights and social events for the students to socialize with one another through the rest of the school year and being present to help, support and represent events. Diallo lives by having hospitality for one another (1 Peter 4:9 KJV) and praying for one another (1 Peter 3:8 KJV). Lastly, I enjoy spending my free time going to church, reading the Bible, streaming on Twitch as DiFury, playing video games, watching Netflix Disney plus and/or competitive reality shows, and hanging out with my family and/or friends.
