CSM Campuses Open 10 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 20; Online Courses Continue as Scheduled

February 20, 2025

Due to weather conditions, all College of Southern Maryland (CSM) campuses and instructional sites will open on a delayed schedule beginning at 10 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 20. All in-person classes will begin at 10 a.m. and all in-person classes that were planned before 10 a.m. will not be held. All online classes and online services will be held and available as scheduled. Essential operations employees should report to work following the direction of their supervisors.

CSM Hosts 35 Middle and High School Teams in 'High Stakes' Robotics Tournament

The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) hosted 35 teams of local and regional middle- and high-school students last weekend at the Southern Maryland VEX V5 Robotics Tournament held at the La Plata Campus. At the Feb. 15 tournament, student-team-built robots were inspected, put to the test, judged, and awarded for their high-tech efforts.

University of Maryland Baltimore County President Emeritus Speaks at CSM

The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) welcomed Freeman Hrabowski III, President Emeritus of University of Maryland Baltimore County, Jan. 29 at its La Plata Campus where he delivered CSM’s first Master Leadership Class to executive, senior, and student leaders using his book, The Empowered University.

CSM Celebrates Naming of Hank Willoughby Foundation Center for the Arts

The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) Foundation renamed the CSM Fine Arts Center at the La Plata Campus to the Hank Willoughby Foundation Center for the Arts Feb. 7, 2025, to honor the significant contributions that the Hank Willoughby Foundation has made to improve student progress and completion.

Thanks to a recently awarded $490,000 grant from the Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland to the College of Southern Maryland (CSM), students are learning that the answer to food insecurity could be to grow crops up instead of out – and vertically instead of horizontally.

CSM Celebrates its 2025 Health Career Readiness Graduates

January 21, 2025

College of Southern Maryland (CSM) students who have chosen to pursue careers in health care were lauded and celebrated Jan. 16 during the college’s Health Career Readiness Recognition in La Plata. Ninety-six students were recognized for completing programs to become certified nursing assistants, geriatric nursing assistants, dental assistants, phlebotomy technicians, certified clinical medical assistants, paramedics, certified nutrition coaches, and certified personal trainers.

CSM Closes Jan. 20 in Observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day; Welcomes Students for First Day of Spring Semester Jan. 21

The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) will close for Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 20, 2025 and will resume normal operating hours Jan. 21 when the college welcomes back its CSM Hawks to the first day of the Spring semester. During Martin Luther King Jr. Day, access to online services, including registration for credit and non-credit classes, remains available at www.csmd.edu.

CSM Announces Fall 2024 Dean's List

January 12, 2025

The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) has released its dean’s list for the 2024 fall session. Students who have earned 12 or more credits at CSM are eligible to be considered for the dean’s list. At the end of the fall, spring, and summer sessions, full- and part-time time students who have completed at least six credits during the semester and have earned a term grade point average of 3.5 or better will be included in the dean’s list. CSM Closes All Campuses Saturday, Jan. 11; Bethesda Arts Trio Performance Canceled

January 10, 2025

Due to impending winter weather, College of Southern Maryland (CSM) campuses and instructional sites will be closed Saturday, Jan. 11. The closure includes the cancellation of the scheduled performance of the Benny C. Morgan Concert Series featuring the Bethesda Arts Trio at 2 p.m. Jan. 11 at the Leonardtown Campus. All online classes and online services will be held and available as scheduled. Essential operations employees should report to work following the direction of their supervisors.
