This agreement between CSM and the University of Maryland School of Nursing (UMSON) provides a seamless transition from the Associate Degree in Nursing to the Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) by offering UMSON nursing courses as well as providing Registered Nurses the opportunity to complete any necessary prerequisites at CSM to satisfy BSN program requirements.

Prerequisites: include general chemistry with lab (CHE 1200 and lab), statistics (MTH 1015), college math/algebra (MTH 1120), anatomy & physiology I & II with lab (BIO 2070 and lab, BIO 2080 and lab), microbiology with lab (BIO 2010 and lab), human growth & development (PSY 2050), nutrition (BIO 2160), English I & II (ENG 1010 and ENG 1020), intro to psych (PSY 1010), intro to sociology (SOC 1010), six credits in social sciences, nine credits in humanities, and ten credits in electives.
Students need a cumulative grade point average of a 3.0 or higher, science grade point average of a 2.75 or higher, complete all CSM and UMSON non nursing courses and be admitted into CSM's nursing program.

- I am receiving federal or state financial aid. How will participating in UMSON's Dual Admission impact my financial aid? While you are taking classes at CSM, your financial aid will be processed through CSM's financial aid office. Only CSM courses will be eligible for financial aid through CSM. You should contact UMSON's financial aid office to see what options are available to assist with your UMSON courses.
- I am receiving Veterans' Benefits to assist with paying for my tuition. How will participating in UMSON's Dual Admission Program impact my VA Benefits? While you are taking classes at CSM, CSM's Veterans staff will process your CSM class enrollment. You should contact UMSON's Veterans office to determine how to use your VA benefits for UMSON classes.
- What are the deadlines? Applicants must submit all required materials by December 1 for enrollment in the following fall semester and no later than May 1 for the following spring semester.
- What are the prerequisites for admission? An overall cumulative GPA (grade point average) of 3.0 and a cumulative GPA of 2.75 in sciences. Please note that students must maintain a GPA of a 3.0 or higher while in CSM's nursing program and while taking UMSON courses.

- I took courses years ago at a different college. Do any of these courses expire for this Dual Admission program? For applicants of the RN to BSN program, prior coursework does not expire.
- How many nursing courses are in the RN to BSN program at UMSON? There are nine nursing courses with one course having a clinical component. Courses are 16 weeks in length.
- What are some of the prerequisite courses? General chemistry with lab (CHE-1200 and lab); A&P I and II w/ lab (4 each); Microbiology w/ lab (4); Human Growth & Development (3); Statistics (3); Nutrition (3); English I and II (3 each); Intro to Psychology (3); Intro to Sociology (3); either College Algebra or Calculus and Pre-calculus (3); two Social Science electives (3 credits each); three Humanities electives (3 credits each); General electives (10 credits total).
- In which semester of my CSM nursing program am I eligible to begin the application process with UMSON? As soon as you have been admitted to the CSM nursing program. You have to have completed the first semester (NUR 1115/L) before being eligible to take the first UMSON nursing course.
- I am a CSM student, but not in the nursing program yet. Can I apply to the Dual Admission program? You must be admitted to the nursing program at CSM. However, you can still meet with Mona Weber, ATB/Dual Admissions BSN Coordinator, rvweber@csmd.edu to discuss a program plan and complete pre-requisite courses.
- How are the UMSON nursing courses taught? All of the UMSON nursing courses are taught online.
- How and when will I know if my UMSON application has been accepted and approved? Once you have completed the online application, the pre-requisite course list, and all transcripts, and you meet the required GPAs, the applicant should be notified of admission within 2-3 weeks. Application status can be checked by the student on the UMSON website. Letters of admission are mailed via USPS as well as email.

- How long does this Dual admission program take in order to obtain my BSN? This will vary for every student and will depend on the number and nature of prerequisite courses needed, how many courses individuals will be able to take each semester and the schedule of course offerings.
- Will UMSON nursing courses be taught during the summer? The exact course offerings and dates add will be available when the summer schedule is on UMSON’s website for that particular semester.
