Fundraising and special events are commonly a way of life for nonprofits. When successful, they can grow into a signature experience drawing patrons and sponsors year after year to an event that showcases your mission and positively brands your organization for years to come. In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic radically changed the way we work and socialize resulting in the cancellation of many signature events. This class will examine the response of two or three organizations that adapted to social distancing requirements to avoid canceling their fundraising event. We will also examine the role of special events: how to fit them into your organization's overall development plan, how to budget for them and make an accurate determination of net income, and how to maximize their effectiveness.
