Nonprofit Spotlight
Calvert Meals on Wheels Inc. (CMOW) is a volunteer nonprofit that delivers a microwaveable, midday meal to clients five days a week. Since its founding in 1982, the nonprofit has delivered thousands of meals.
The organization’s mission is to help homebound Calvert County citizens who have trouble preparing meals, so they can live more independently. Homebound citizens who are over 60 years old and do not drive are eligible to receive meals, regardless of income.
CMOW provides meals with the assistance of drivers, route coordinators, and a board of directors. All of these roles are done by volunteers. Drivers deliver noontime meals to clients during the week, and route coordinators manage delivery routes throughout Calvert County. CMOW also works closely with the Calvert County Office on Aging in order to operate. Close to 100% of the nonprofit’s funds are used to provide meals, and CMOW delivered about 17,788 meals to 146 clients in 2018.
“CMOW is grateful to have partners such as the Calvert County Commissioners, the Calvert County Office on Aging, the ARC of Southern Maryland, and the Center for Life Enrichment supporting us," said CMOW Board President Shirl Hendley.
