Poiema Movement is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization helping women in Southern Maryland who are survivors of homelessness, addiction, abuse, and other major life crises. The organization’s goal is to value each woman and empower her to live a transformed life. Poiema Movement does this by giving clients a safe place to live, employment support, mentorship, and more for up to two years. These resources are available for women 18 years and older, who have endured trauma and made difficult choices but are ready to turn their lives around. Poiema Movement’s resources let each woman move from brokenness to restoration.

“I value myself now. Before I didn’t care about myself whatsoever.”

The nonprofit’s vision is to change the community one life at a time. Poiema Movement envisions a world with self-sustaining, connected communities. Within these communities, individuals and families can live with dignity, purpose, and hope.

“Today I am sober, I believe in myself, but most importantly, I believe in God.”
- Hayley, client of Poiema Movement

Poiema Movement was founded by Michael and Angela Rogalski. It originated as a vision from Michael Rogalski, the lead pastor of LifePoint Church. He dreamed of starting a safe refuge that restored women in crisis. The dream began as a church ministry. It became a nonprofit after LifePoint Church bought two homes and an empty lot in 2018. The name of the organization was inspired by a Bible verse: “For we are God’s masterpiece (poiema). He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the things He planned for us long ago.” - Ephesians 2:10, New Living Translation.

“Now I have hope. I’m starting to believe in myself and know my worth. I’m valuable.”
- Stephanie, client of Poiema Movement

The organization provides many ways for the public to help clients restore their lives. Poiema Movement takes one-time and recurring donations to sponsor women survivors. This is important since monetary donations let the nonprofit provide resources and support. Individuals can also assist by volunteering. Volunteer positions include being a sister support mentor, a transportation driver for clients, a personal development facilitator, and more. Additionally, Poiema Movement offers several community engagement opportunities in the form of partnerships. Nonprofit partners can donate monthly, quarterly, or annually. They can also supply items for clients according to the nonprofit’s Amazon wish list. In addition, partners may highlight Poiema Movement at events by hosting a speaker, playing promotional videos, and providing an information booth.
