Constitution and Citizenship Week Events
Each year in September, we commemorate the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787, which established the framework for our system of government and, with the ratification of the Fourteenth Amendment, recognized all who are born or naturalized in the U.S. as citizens. Check out the events planned for this week!
- Constitution and Citizenship Quizzes: Test your knowledge of the Constitution and see if you could pass the U.S. citizenship test!
- Voter Registration Drive: Decisions get made by the people who show up, so make your voice heard in the 2024 elections! Register to vote and learn about the process, voting options, and helping others to cast their own vote.
- Sept. 17: La Plata, Leonardtown, and Prince Frederick campuses
- Sept. 25: Prince Frederick campus
- "Understanding Voter ID Laws in America: Access, Barriers, and the Impact on Democracy": On Sept. 19, join the Miller Center for Leadership and guest speaker Jillian Andres Rothschild as she discusses the effect of voter ID laws on voting and elections in the U.S.
- Red, White, and Blue Grab and Go: Snag snacks and beverages on your way to or from class on Sept. 17, courtesy of the La Plata Campus Association!

Casting Call for "Ain’t Misbehavin’"
Students and community members are invited to audition for CSM’s spring theater production of the musical “Ain’t Misbehavin'” Sept. 27-29. This tribute to the life and career of Black jazz musician Fats Waller is filled with upbeat, energetic songs and instrumentals that embody the soul of the Harlem Renaissance.

Join CSM’s studio art professors for a gallery talk and reception on Sept. 19 to discuss their exhibition, “NEW: Works by Jerry Truong, Coy Gu, Andrew Wodzianski, and George Bedell.” On display until Oct. 18, these creations come together to form a group show that is diverse, thought-provoking, and, of course, entirely new.

“My research and writing have focused on many topics in aesthetics, feminist philosophy, applied ethics, and fat studies, including mindful representation of marginalized groups in popular television and film; using beauty and fashion to resist anti-fat oppression; and the importance of making humanizing and imperfect characters in television to improve visibility of marginalized communities."

DSS assistance isn’t limited to physical or “obvious” disabilities, either; students living with “invisible disabilities” like dyslexia or ADHD can also get the support they need.

Additional Hours for CSM Connector: Free Public Transportation for Students
The hours for the CSM Connector bus service have been extended, starting this fall! Operated by Charles County’s VanGO service, the CSM Connector is free of charge and links our La Plata and Regional Hughesville campuses with the transit systems of Charles, Calvert, and St. Mary’s counties. These extra hours in the afternoon provide a new, free public transportation option for students in more than two dozen afternoon class sections.
