CYBERSECURITY AWARENESS MONTH: PRIVACY
Privacy in our digital world is all about trying to limit what information is collected about you and protecting your sensitive personal data. Short of going off the grid, it’s practically impossible to sweep away your digital footprint, but there are steps you can take to reduce it:
- Don’t Overshare: Limit what you post and share, even if you think it’s a secure space.
- Read the Fine Print: Check the privacy policy for sites and apps to see what they collect. If it seems sketchy, don’t use it!
- No Such Thing as a Free App: Regardless of privacy options, information is always being collected, especially with “free” services. They make their money by selling your data; you’re not the customer, you’re the product.
- Practice Safe Tech: To browse anonymously, use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) and/or a browser designed for privacy.
