MLT STUDENTS FINISH STRONG AT THE CELL BOWL

MLT STUDENTS FINISH STRONG AT THE CELL BOWL

Students from CSM’s Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program matched wits and clinical skills with colleges across the country in the American Society for Clinical Pathology’s (ASCP) Cell Bowl—the “Super Bowl of student hematology competitions.” Our MLT squad finished No. 3 in the East and No. 7 nationally. The Cell Bowl is the brainchild of CSM’s own Professor Tiffany Gill, coordinator of the MLT program and member of the ASCP Social Media Committee. Follow the Cell Bowl playoffs with Professor Gill, aka Medical Lab Lady Gill, on her YouTube channel.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

STUDENT AND EMPLOYEE VACCINATION REQUIREMENT

The College of Southern Maryland continues to work toward ensuring a safe working and learning environment at each of our campuses. Since the virus arrived in March 2020, we have been actively gathering input and data from many sources on the pandemic, vaccines, and the future of CSM, and your feedback has been invaluable.

The effectiveness of the vaccines against COVID-19 and their widespread availability allow us to take the next step toward increasing the number of face-to-face course offerings, in-person academic experiences, and other on-campus activities. The college’s Safer on Campus Task Force is tasked with researching and recommending strategies for an employee and student COVID-19 vaccination requirement for the Spring 2022 Semester, which begins January 18, 2022.

We understand you have a lot of questions, and while we don’t have all the answers yet, it is our goal to roll out our plan by Nov. 19 and we will share more information with you at that time.

COVID-19 Q&A SESSIONS

Please join us at a virtual Q&A session for students on Nov. 22 to learn about the recommendations of the Safer on Campus Task Force and our plans for implementing a vaccine requirement. Sessions will be held at 10 a.m. and at 6 p.m.; see your CSM student email for more information.

YOUR COVID-19 QUESTIONS ANSWERED BY SOUTHERN MARYLAND EXPERTS

Watch Dr. Meenakshi G. Brewster and Dr. Laurence Polsky from the St. Mary’s and Calvert County Health Departments as they answer some common questions related to COVID-19 for the CSM community.
