About

I've spent nearly two decades in education, including as a classroom teacher and an instructional coach for Charles County Public Schools. I am a huge mental health advocate supporting organizations like Still I Run, Hilinski's Hope, Morgan's Message, and Active Minds that fight to end the stigma surrounding mental health.

I've completed six half marathons, with Nashville and Columbus being my favorites. I am an avid Nationals fan (former racing president) and college sports fan. I enjoy visual journaling, trying new types of coffee from independent roasters, and being a cat dad to Weasley.

Educational Background

I earned my bachelor’s degree in secondary education social studies from Penn State University in 2005. While working full time, I earned my master’s in educational psychology from the University of Virginia in 2014. I also earned a course certificate in positive psychology led by University of Pennsylvania faculty in 2019.

Q&A

I believe in an adaptive style. It is important to adjust according to the needs of the students. Students thrive when they can relate and connect to the content so I believe in the importance of relevant, easily connectable examples and engaging students to encourage ownership in their learning process.

I've served as the national run chapter program manager for Still I Run Runners for Mental Health Awareness. I've also served as the parking team coordinator and visual production tech at Crossroads Church in Fredericksburg, Va.

I am extremely passionate about psychology and mental health advocacy. Students will see my passion for the content and my desire to help them understand, apply, and appreciate what they are learning. I want my students to be successful and believe the skills and knowledge learned in my class will help pave the way for a successful college and career future.
