About
I've taught studio art and art history at CSM since 1997, but my involvement in art has been for a much longer time.
I am an artist and have exhibited my sculpture, paintings, and photography nationally. My wife and I owned and operated an art restoration studio for many years, restoring fine art, church statuary, and architectural ornamentation, specializing in antique carousels.
I hold a Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture, and I presently live in North Beach with my wife and six retired racing greyhounds.
Educational Background
- Bachelor of Fine Arts, University of Illinois, 1972
- Master of Arts, Northern Illinois University, 1975
- Master of Fine Arts, Northern Illinois University, 1976
Q&A
Often pinned to my studio apron is a button that reads, “Fear no art!” and over the years I have come to consider those three short words my educational mission statement. It is frequently human nature to have a fear of the unknown, and for so many Americans, whose formal education in the arts ends at too early an age, art can be truly scary. From that premise, the most important contribution I can make to a student’s education is to instill in that student a level of comfort in the making of and responding to art.
