Q&A
Learning should be both fun and applicable to real-world settings and situations. The MLT program incorporates collaborative experiences, gaming, and simulated experiences into a technology-based curriculum. Students complete a learning styles inventory before they start the program to gain insight on the best study practices for them to achieve their potential. Every class period is recorded, and the recordings are available to students immediately after class. I am a firm believer in transparency, respect, kindness, and humor.
I love the outdoors, reading, and wildlife! My family and I compete in a lot of virtual races where we go walking, hiking, running, biking, or kayaking. We also enjoy rock crawling with our Jeeps around the country.
I started a YouTube channel, Medical Lab Lady Gill, to house the medical laboratory demonstration videos for the MLT courses. It has become a global phenomenon and led to so many other wonderful opportunities! These include the Cell Bowl, a national hematology competition that I started in our CSM MLT program and turned it into a national event.
As the channel expanded, the Medical Lab Lady Gill brand was born. In 2022, I was an American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) 40 Under Forty Top Five honoree and ASCP Career Ambassador Award recipient. Both are international awards for innovative and outreach contributions to the field of pathology and laboratory medicine.
That led to being the commencement speaker for my alma mater’s College of Graduate Studies in May 2023, where I received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters.
I am a YouTuber focusing on medical laboratory education. Each year, the channel conducts activities and game shows during Medical Laboratory Professionals Week in April and the Cell Bowl in October and November. I am an ASCP mentor, career ambassador, Social Media Committee member, and ASCP Board of Certification Hematology Exam Committee member.
The quality of education without the need to leave your hometown
Students are able to work as medical laboratory assistants and/or phlebotomists while in the program. Graduates are immediately able to take the ASCP Board of Certification exam. While working as a certified medical laboratory technician (MLT), graduates can continue their education with any of our online or face-to-face transfer options to be eligible to sit for the ASCP Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) exam.
