About

I have an eclectic work background: clerical work; insurance claims; newspaper office; small retail floral shop owner and designer; elementary, middle, and high school teacher and substitute teacher; teaching English as a Foreign Language in South Korea; adult education instructor for GED preparation and English as a Second Language classes; pressed flower artist; and more!

I returned to finish college in my 40s, graduating summa cum laude from SUNY Oswego, with scholarship wins, poetry contest awards, the New York Chancellor's Award for Excellence, and other recognitions long the way.

A lifelong community volunteer (ask me!), my lifelong interests include flowers, reading, writing, walking, and many others.

Educational Background

I received a bachelor's degree with a double major in education and English and a minor in linguistics from State University of New York, Oswego in 1998. In 2007, I earned my master's degree in adult education and training from the University of Phoenix Online.

Q&A

Learner-focused and flexible.

Flowers! I grew up on a 32-acre plant nursery in New Jersy. I'm a lifelong lover of botanical gardens and walking and hiking in the woods, and for more than 12 years, I've owned and operated small retail flower shops. I call myself a "small flower farmer" and grow more than 400 different types of flowers and plants for my pressed flower art.

Tonglen Art is the name of my pressed flower business; I grow, press, and sell many different flowers and foliage, as well as art that I create from these.

I volunteer for the Charles County Literacy Council and I currently tutor GED learners.

I am an active member and contributor, as well as a prior board member, of the World Wide Pressed Flower Guild (WWPFG).

Having worked and taught online for more than 10 years, as well as having worked with adult learners from around the world, I have developed an ability to engage, encourage, and guide adult learners to gain competence and confidence in speaking and communicating more clearly.
