Live @ the Velocity Center is a simulcast series highlighting innovation, collaboration and entrepreneurship in the Southern Maryland region. Episode 5 – ‘What is a Makerspace?’ features a dynamic panel of experts offering insights into the role of Makerspaces as learning spaces to support academia, workforce development and economic growth.
Tour the College of Southern Maryland’s new state of the art Makerspace at the Velocity Center. Equipped with a variety of maker equipment including 3D printers/scanners, laser cutters, and other digital fabrication and engineering and product design equipment this is a collaborative community work space for making, learning, exploring, and sharing.

Panelists:
Olga Pogoda - Principal and Co-Founder of KRNLS, a research and implementation firm focused on working at the intersection of technology and economic development. Olga has a passion for the maker community and entrepreneurship. An expert in tech startups, community development, and marketing strategy, Olga designed and managed marketing and crowdfunding campaigns raising $2.3M for small businesses in Pittsburgh, in just 5 years. Working with global, federal, state, local, for-profit, and nonprofit organizations alike, Olga shares vast experience in makerspaces, hackerspaces, and has worked as TechShop’s liaison to the Obama White House, and with DARPA, DoD, and the Hyperloop project.
Armando Seay – An experienced CISO/FSO and DoD-cleared executive with IT, Program Management and business strategy experience. DreamPort Director and Co-Founder. Board of Directors Member for MISI a 501(c)4 dedicated to the study, test, evaluation, rapid prototyping and community outreach to industry, academia, and Federal, State and Local Government.
Alex Baddock - Technical Training Solutions Provider for the 21st Century Workforce, guiding schools’ integration of cutting edge technology into makerspaces and classrooms K-University, encouraging students in DC and parts of DE, MD, VA, and WV to see new possibilities.
Wynne Briscoe — Founder/ Owner of Forever Eden Organics, Business Consultant, SBDC So. MD Regional Director, MD Certified Technology Consultant and an active voice for small business at Federal, State, and Local government levels. Wynne has helped entrepreneurs go from technology intellectual property concepts to commercialization.
