Real Students. Real Stories.

Jeannine DewittThis week, hear from Jeannine Dewitt, a current student in the Business Administration program:

"CSM has provided me with tools to continue my education as an adult learner. I tried for years throughout my career to take classes here and there, but life happens: marriage, children, and so on. I retired after 27 years at USPS and decided to complete my business degree. CSM welcomed me with open arms and I’ve never looked back.

You are never too old to master new thoughts and ideas. My family has always stressed the importance of education and not being afraid of learning new things. Both of my grandsons are honor roll students, and the oldest is already talking about going to college. They think it’s pretty cool that their grandma is in college—they’re always asking about the type of work I’m doing and trying to provide me some “guidance.”

I’ve already been able to apply what I’ve learned about owning and operating a business, and I’ve opened a small boutique that provides a quaint and unique shopping experience. I want to use my skills and knowledge to realize my business plan and bring my visions to a storefront in my local community."

STUDENT RESOURCES

CSM COLLEGE SURVIVAL GUIDE

The College Survival Guide is a recurring feature that directs members of the CSM community to free resources and support for whatever challenges they may be facing. At CSM, no hawk has to fly alone.

NOT SURE WHAT CLASSES TO TAKE? It’s that time of year again: registration. Finding the schedule that fits your needs and academic goals can feel like playing the least-fun version of Tetris ever.

CSM’s academic advisors can show you how to maximize Student Planning to make selecting classes less challenging. Academic advisors can also help you navigate the opportunities you encounter and overcome any challenges you face on the road to achieving your goals.

HawkPantry
NOT SURE YOU CAN AFFORD GROCERIES? It’s hard to focus on your studies and your goals when you’re not sure where your next meal is coming from. CSM’s Hawk Pantry and Hawk Feeder micro-pantries are available on the La Plata, Leonardtown, and Prince Frederick Campuses for students experiencing food insecurity.

Hawk Feeders are drop-by micro-pantries that are always available while the college is open.
The Hawk Pantry is a weekly opportunity for current students to receive up to 30 pounds of food per week.
