About
I am a Southern Maryland native, and my first collegiate experience was at CSM in the early 2000s. I am a doctoral candidate at Duquesne University, where I research African American literature and Black food studies and am writing a culinary memoir around my ancestry and contextualizing Black women’s relationship to food.
I was the inaugural Emerging Black Artist in Residence at Chatham University (2021-2022).
Educational Background
- Bachelor of Arts, Trinity Washington University (2011)
- Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing, Chatham University (2015)
- Doctoral candidate in English, Duquesne University (ABD 2022)
Q&A
I like to teach inclusively, which means that I want all students to feel supported and acknowledged as individuals. My classes encourage active participation and different styles of thinking critically.
When I am not writing or reading all sorts of books, I am a huge anime fan and cozy gamer! I also love paddle boarding, fishing, and hanging out with my two pups, Lucy and Eleanor Rigby!
No matter whether you consider yourself a wonderful or terrible writer, there's always a place for you in my classroom! We all have room to grow as writers and critical readers.
- “Power in the Tongue,” Tolsun Books, 2022
- “Black Girl, Coping,” midnight & indigo, Dec. 2022
- “Bumble,” Lost Balloon, April 2023
